Memorable dates of Russia: The exhibition of works of Wassily Kandinsky to the 150th anniversary of the artist is opened at the State Tretyakov Gallery
In 2016 the whole world celebrates the 150th anniversary of Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) - the founder and theorist of abstract art, one of the most influential artists of the XX century. The Tretyakov Gallery has prepared a project that includes an exhibition of the artist's two major masterpieces (together with the Hermitage), an international round table (with a "Garage"), the release of a special edition and a holiday within the program "Night at the Museum - 2016".
The system of abstract painting by Kandinsky includes three types of paintings, embodying three stages away from the initial impulse that gave rise to their writing: Impressions, improvisations and compositions. The best works of the painter are recognized as "Composition VI» and «Composition VII». His works are in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery and the Hermitage, in Russia for the last time they were shown together 27 years ago.
The two halls of the Tretyakov gallery in Krymsky Val the iconic works of abstract art are presented "face to face". This exhibition allows the viewer to go through a kind of meditation, a full immersion in the work, so as Kandinsky himself said, "Do not look at the big picture from the outside and to rotate in the picture, to live in it". The effect of simultaneous sound of two paintings is submitted in the name of the exhibition "Wassily Kandinsky. Counterpoint. Composition VI - Composition VII".
Based on the comments on the process of Kandinsky works, preparatory drawings for the works and a series of paintings on the glass it was created a multimedia project "Path to Abstraction". It is demonstrated in the opening of the exhibition hall and helps viewers to see the process of the birth of the "space" at the canvas. On two screens it is visualized history of the compositions of disclosed features of Kandinsky's creative method, shown gradual "dematerialization" of objective forms.
