Russian culture abroad: Icons from the collection of the Novgorod Museum Reserve are presented at the exhibition in Tallinn
April 6, 2016 in Tallinn (Estonia) at the Center of Russian culture wasopened the exhibition "Silent sermon", representing 12 high-quality copies of the world-famous icons from the collection of the Novgorod Museum Reserve.
Among them: the oldest Russian subscription icon "St. Nicholas" 1294 by master Alexa Petrova, "Veil of Our Lady" of the late XIV century, the masterpieces of the XV century - "Saint. Cyril and Athanasius of Alexandria, Leonty of Rostov" and characterized rare iconographic recession "Battle of Novgorod and Suzdal" and "The Deesis Tier and praying Novgorod residents", as well as fragments of the iconostasis of Novgorod several temples, including icons and Deesis of festive series. Taken together, they allow to fully experiencing the specifics of the Novgorod school of icon painting: a special northern severity and grandeur, increased expression of the artistic language of local craftsmen. Prior to this the traveling exhibition has already visited Sochi, Kerch, Estonian, Kohtla-Jarve, received thousands of grateful responses. Copies of the icons are made in the size of the original, on a wooden base, in the technique of printing on gesso. All stages of production of copies - digital photography, image preparation and printing - are produced in the workshop "Sofia Quay" (Moscow).
The Novgorod exhibition will run in Tallinn until May 6.
