Memory of Russia: The exhibition “Children of War” to the 75th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War in the Novgorod region

April 5, 2016 in the exhibition hall of the Museum of the county town (Valdai, the Novgorod region), in branch of the Novgorod Museum Reserve is opened the exhibition "Children of War", dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War. It features more than 140 authentic museum objects during the Great Patriotic War. These are baby pictures, textbooks and notebooks, toys, household items, flyers and documents of wartime, post-war materials about the fate of children who survived the war. The exhibition runs until May 23, 2016.

The front was located 30 km from the Valdai, the population was mostly evacuated to the eastern regions of the country. But in the city and in the region remained the specialists needed in the front line. Children remained there, they not only studied at school but also helped adults to harvest the fields, care for the wounded in the hospitals, collecting parcels at the front, wrote warm letters to fathers, helping them to fight against the enemy. And sometimes they went to fight with the enemy. Boys from the village Plav S. Malin and A. Vikhrov rescued a wounded pilot A. P. Maresiev, becoming the heroes of the book by Boris Polevoy "The Story of a Real Man".
