History and culture: The renovated in the Novgorod Museum-Reserve icon “Saint Alexander Nevsky” to go to the exhibition in Ryazan

April 5, 2016 the Novgorod Museum Reserve holds the press preview of the restored icon "St. Alexander Nevsky "(1855) in the workshop of the restoration of Tempera Painting (Kremlin, Nikitsky wing).

Icon "St. Alexander Nevsky" (154,5х107х7cm) comes from the local tier of the iconostasis in the church of St. Catherine of the village Rovnoye of the Borovichi district. It was received in 1937 in Borovichi Museum of Local Lore; in 1988 it transferred to the Novgorod Museum. The icon was painted in oils on thin soil on the basis of color of 5 boards, with two cut-through-dowels.

After the restoration the icon will go to expose as a part of the exhibition "Alexander Nevsky" in the Ryazan Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve (14 April - 14 June 2016). Along with it at the exhibition will be presented: the archaeological material from the collections of the Novgorod Museum Reserve (battle axes, swords, maces, flails, spears and arrows, the reconstruction of the sword and helmet, chain mail, birch bark), a copy of the thumbnail of the Personal Chronicle of the XVI century maps and diagrams of battles in 1240 and 1242 years, and calendar service Menaion of the XVII - XVIII centuries which are evidence of the spread of the cult of St. Alexander Nevsky, a picturesque portrait of Alexander Nevsky (XIX century), the service of the Order of the plates of the XVIII century.
