Memory of Russia: The exhibition, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Brusilov Offensive, in Saint-Petersburg

The exhibition "May… Lutsk… Brusilov Offensive. Dedicated to the 100th anniversary" was opened at the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer and Signal Corps (St. Petersburg).

The exhibition is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the breakthrough, originally named Lutsk, then May, as in Soviet times - Brusilov. It became one of the biggest victories in Russia during the First World War. The exhibition presents weapons, including captured (Austrian), uniforms, all kinds of engineering devices, which were used against infantry and cavalry of the enemy, means of communication during the First World War, the original archival documents and paintings from the museum. The large volume presents original historical photos. On one of them depicts the meeting of Bids (Staff) of the Supreme Commander with the participation of Emperor Nicholas II, which took place April 1, 1916, at which in particular, was discussed the possibility of the onset of the South-Western Front under the command of A. A. Brusilov.

From the unique exhibits - aerial camera, this was first used during the Brusilov Offensive to conduct air reconnaissance. On the basis of the data l was made the layout of location of the opposing parties, which is also shown in the exhibition.

It is very curious to learn how reacted press of that time to the events of the war. In addition to the Russian newspaper "Border guard" in the windows are presented translations of articles from English magazines that covered the turn of Brusilov Offensive.

Some of the exhibits for the new exhibition provide descendants of General of Artillery Mikhail Vasilyevich Khanzhin, who took an active part in developing a plan of Lutsk operation. According to many researchers, it was he who played a prominent role in the organization of the offensive of the Southwestern Front.

The exhibition will be open until the end of August 2016.
