Society and culture: The exhibition, dedicated to the fabulous theme in the works of Russian artists of XIX-XX centuries in Saint-Petersburg

The exhibition "Times of past stories" opens May 19, 2016 at the Museum-Institute of the Roerich family (St. Petersburg).

The exhibition is dedicated to the fabulous theme in the works of Russian artists of the XIX-XX centuries. The exhibition presents the works of famous Russian artists of the Silver Age, artists of Abramtsevo circle (Vasnetsov, Valentin Serov, Vrubel, Polenova) and "World of Art" (N. K. Roerich and Y. Y. Bilibin).

The exhibits from the collections of the State Historical-Artistic and Literary Museum "Abramtsevo", the State Russian Museum, the Russian Museum of Ethnography and the St. Petersburg Museum-Institute of the Roerich family will acquaint the audience not only with paintings of artists and their works for the theater, with book illustration and literary works. Subject tale, with its fantastic and at the same time everyday narrative, attracted not only artists the opportunity to plunge into the world of poetic artistic images, but also appeal to the national culture. Neo-Russian style, form in art workshops and Abramtzevo Talashkino, responded to a fabulous theme works of arts and crafts. The ethnographic and archaeological expeditions of Russian artists Ivan Bilibin and Nicholas Roerich, enriched the art culture of the XIX-XX centuries, reliable manner based on folk costumes, traditional dwellings and utensils.

The exhibition is supplemented with rare editions from the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and musical instruments from the private collection.

The exhibition will run until September 18.
