Memory of the World: Action “Immortal regiment” to be held in cities across the country and the world

May 9, 2016 the action "Immortal regiment" will again be held in the cities of Russia. Last year, on the day of 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War the march "Immortal regiment" has collected more than half a million people in Moscow. Across Russia, more than 12 million people held portraits of relatives who fought. The march was part of the People's Victory Day parade.

This year, part of the People's Victory parade on May 9 will be held again on the Red Square of the capital.

History of the action started in Tyumen in 2007 and was called "Parade of winners". "Immortal regiment," it was called since March 2012 in Tomsk, and in 2013 expanded to 120 cities. In 2014, on the streets with portraits of soldiers residents of 500 towns appeared in seven countries.

Since 2015 the action officially became a nationwide campaign. According to the Russian Public Opinion Research Center, the idea of "Immortal regiment" is close to 96% of people in Russia, among which a lot of young people.

Civil initiative is also supported in Abkhazia, Armenia, Austria, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Germany, Israel, Ireland, Iceland, Qatar, Korea, Lebanon, Mongolia, Norway, Panama, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the United States, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Estonia.
