Memorable dates of Russia: Jubilee exhibition, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the artist Leon Bakst, to be held in Moscow

The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow) on June 7, 2016 will present a commemorative exhibition dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Russian artist Leon Bakst (1866-1924).

Leo (or as he was known in the West - Leon) Bakst was a theater artist, painter, portraitist, illustrator of books, interior designer and the creator of the clothing and accessories of the 1910s. He wrote articles on modern design, the art of dance, he was fond of photography and film, he wrote full of intriguing details autobiographical novel.

Leon Bakst was both Russian and European artists. His work is organic for the heyday of European art of the first decades of the XX century.

More than 200 paintings, drawings, theatrical costumes and archival photos of Leon Bakst compiled by an international team of curators at the first retrospective exhibition of the artist in Russia, will pay homage to the rich and diverse creativity of this amazing wizard. The exhibition includes works of Russian and foreign public and private collections, many of which will be exhibited for the first time at the home of the artist.
