Exhibitions: Works of the sculptor Stepan Erzia are presented in Saint-Petersburg
June 15, 2016 in the Mikhailovsky (Engineers') Castle (the State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg) is opened the exhibition "Stepan Erzia. 1876-1959".
The exhibition of the outstanding sculptor of the first half of the XX century Stepan Dmitrievich Nefedov, known under the pseudonym Erzia, presents all the works of the master stored in the Russian Museum (31 sculptures) as well as 6 works from the collections of the Mordovia S. D. Erzia Fine Arts Museum in Saransk.
Name Erzya is known not only in Russia but also worldwide. From 1907 to 1914 Erzia lived and worked in Italy and France. In 1913 in Paris he had his first solo exhibition. From 1927 to 1950 Erzia spent in Argentina, after which he returned to his homeland.
Erzia’s works always caused and continued to cause an intense interest and love and sincere admiration. The collection of the Russian Museum kept the largest and the complete collection of works of the sculptor, donated by the author to the state.
