Society and culture: The exhibition “From Saint-Petersburg to Moscow: friendship of two engravers” in Moscow

The Museum and Exhibition Complex of the Russian Academy of Arts - Zurab Tsereteli Art Gallery (Moscow) from June 14, 2016 presents a unique exhibition entitled "From St. Petersburg to Moscow: the friendship of two engravers" - exhibition of works by the two artists, wonderful people and the extraordinary artists. One of them, Anna Ostroumova-Lebedeva (1871-1955) - the world-famous St. Petersburg Master of woodcuts, the second Nikolai Sinitsyn (1912-2000) - Moscow artist and educator, whose heritage, in the opinion of the researchers, waiting wide popularity in the future. The exhibition is timed to the 145th anniversary of A. P. Ostroumova-Lebedeva. The exposition refers to the formation of national culture, which is associated with the era of the turn of XIX-XX centuries - time of the search of a new large artistic style, the rise of Russian art.  

The exhibition presents more than 100 works of A. P. Ostroumova-Lebedeva from private collections, dedicated primarily to Petersburg. These are well-known colored woodcuts, autolithographies, watercolors, drawings, works by traveling abroad - Italy, France, Finland, as well as the well-known series of postcards "To help St. Eugenia Community" 1904-1913 with the image of St. Petersburg architecture and field colors.

The second part of the exhibition is devoted to the work of the Moscow engraver and teacher N. V. Sinitsyn - pupil of A. P. Ostroumova-Lebedeva. Their long-term business and creative communication was accompanied by a constant correspondence. Authorship of N. V. Sinitsyn belongs to monograph "Engravings of Ostroumova-Lebedeva", in which she appears as one of the Russian women artists, who really should be called a great master.

Creativity of N. V. Sinitsyn is presented in 60 works. This cycle of color and monochrome linocuts - portraits, architectural monuments, landscapes, unique linocut, dedicated to the ensemble of Tsaritsyno. The exhibition is complemented by a series of watercolors, which depicted views of the Oka River in its middle reaches, Zvenigorod with its picturesque hills covered with pine trees, ancient ramparts of the prince of the Kremlin, a majestic beautiful Savvino-Storozhevsky monastery.

The exhibition features documentary photographs. The exhibition also includes works by A. N. Korotaeva (Sinitsyna), engraver and watercolorist - daughter of N. V. Sinitsyn. In his works A. Sinitsyna continues the family tradition and works as a graphic artist.
