From June 7, 2016 in the General Staff of the State Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg) was opened the exhibition "Peter Paul Rubens "The Resurrection of Christ" from "Reborn masterpieces".

For the first time in 80 years, the audience will see a restored painting of the great Flemish painter of XVII century from the Hermitage collection. Until 1934 the painting was in the Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, and was known only by the few descriptions.

The painting by Rubens, painted by the artist in 1610-1611, was acquired by Empress Catherine II. In 1794, she donated it among the other works of foreign masters of the Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Monastery, built shortly before. "The Resurrection of Christ", more than a hundred years adorned the altar of the temple, it was out of sight and experts in the scientific revolution was not included. After the closure of the cathedral in 1934, the painting was transferred to the Hermitage cliches on the shaft, and nearly 80 years remained inaccessible to study. Only in 2012, after the opening of the Hermitage Restoration and Storage Center in the "Old Village" was technically possible to remove the shaft from the huge picture (482h278 cm) and begin its restoration.
