Museums: The exhibition of rare Greek silverware was opened in the MVK “New Jerusalem”

The museum and exhibition complex of the Moscow region "New Jerusalem" opened the exhibition "Silver Ioannina. Art Through the Ages". The exhibition is held within the framework of cross-year Russia and Greece from 15 July to 11 September.

The exhibition features more than 200 unique pieces of silver, made by skillful hands of craftsmen who for centuries have created the glory of Ioannina center of Greek jewelry.

The exhibition is a kind of presentation of the history, traditions and trends of Russia on a silver art in this Greek city. It not only demonstrates the ancient treasures, but also tells about the craft of silversmiths, the processing techniques of this precious metal in the world famous shops.

The exposition includes many rare silver items handmade. Silver treasures are presented in two main sections: the historic and the modern. And in each of them you can see the subjects of church and secular art, including Orthodox treasures from different churches and diocese of the city of Ioannina, as well as the modern church utensils from independent shops and the city center of traditional crafts. Among secular products on display there are historical relics - kitchen utensils and jewelry with precious stones and unique products of modern masters.

In parallel to the exhibition you can get acquainted with the techniques of silver processing (hand engraving, chasing, or blown sculptural techniques, casting, filigree), to learn about the role of Ioannina in the history of trade relations with the cities in Russia.
