Memorable dates of Russia: The exhibition “Wassily Kandinsky and Russia” timed to the 150th anniversary of the painter at the State Russian Museum

The exhibition "Wassily Kandinsky and Russia" will be open on September 15, 2016 in the Benois Wing (the State Russian Museum).

Life and work of Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) - the world famous Russian artist - will be presented for the first time in the aspect of national origins of his early works of figurative and abstract paintings of the 1910s. The exhibition, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Kandinsky's birth, along with the paintings and graphic works of this master will include the works of his famous contemporaries (Ivan Bilibin, Elena Polenova, Sergei Malyutin, Mikhail Larionov, Natalia Goncharova, Kazimir Malevich, David Burliuk, Alex Jawlensky, Marianne Verevkina and others).

The exhibition will be complemented with patterns of Russian folk art (spinning wheels, tuesa, embroidered towels, toys, wood carving), which had a significant impact on the formation of the defining ideological and stylistic principles of art of Wassily Kandinsky.

The exhibition will feature works from the collection of the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin Museum, State Hermitage Museum and other museum collections.
