Year of Russian Cinema 2016: Exhibition "Cinematograph or living, singing and talking picture" in St. Petersburg
August 25, 2016 in the framework of the Year of Russian cinema offers a unique large-scale exhibition "Cinematograph or living, singing and talking picture" is opening in the Department of Prints of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg).
For the first time the exhibition will feature rare materials of 1890-1910s from NLR funds, which are one of the best collections in Russia.
300 rare exhibits - colorful large-format lithographic posters, magazines and booklets with spectacular scenes from the films, leaflets, photographs, programs will demonstrate the epoch of the national cinema, the first steps of "living, singing and talking pictures".
The attention of visitors will attract the early newsreels containing valuable factual information about the infant's new art, aesthetic and ideological disputes that led contemporaries around the cinema. That such publications as "Blue-Fono" (1907-1918), "Kinematics" (1909-1910), "Bulletin of the living pictures" (1909), "Russian Screen" (1916) and others.
Among the exhibits - the novels and stories of fashion "writers" and well-known writers - the basis of "scenarios" for the first Russian films. To create films were used poems, such as "cinema of poetry"by Igor Severyanin "You will not come back to me".
Rare materials of the exhibition, widely common in the 1910s, will be interesting for professionals and all lovers of the history of cinema. The exhibition will be an interesting event in the life of the city and be able to give a holistic view of the first steps of the "great silent" art that would soon be called the "most important" in our country.
The exposition will be open until October 2.
