Information technology and society: Russian high school students became the second ones at the International Olympiad in Informatics in Kazan

The high school students from the Russian team for the sum of points won the second place at the XVIII International Olympiad in Informatics in Kazan, the first place won the kids from China, a team from Iran, is in the third place, according to the organizing committee of the Olympiad.

International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) is being held under the auspices of UNESCO since 1989 and is one of the most prestigious intellectual competitions of the high school students around the world. Over its history, the Olympiad was held in 25 countries. In 1991 it took place in the USSR in Minsk. Olympiad took place in Russian Federation in 2016 for the first time, Kazan has won the right to host the competition in competition with the cities competitors from Japan and Azerbaijan.

Organizers announced that all kids can count on a medal in the individual competition, the final results will be announced at the closing ceremony of the Olympiad. Under current rules, based on the results half of the participants will receive the IOI medals of different denominations, the gold medals - 8% of them.

There were two Russian teams at the Olympiad - high school students from Moscow, the Moscow Oblast, St. Petersburg, Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan.
