An official after reconstruction opening of the “Gnezdilovskaya Height” memorial complex was held at the Spas-Demensk District of the Kaluga Oblast.

New sculpture of the Red Army soldier in the Kaluga Oblast is courtesy of the Russian Military-historical Society (RVIO). The monument depicts a soldier with bowed head. He holds a military side cap in his left hand and has an automatic rifle with a bayonet behind his back.

A ceremony of reburial of 45 soldiers of the Red Army, fought on Gnezdilovskaya Height took place after the opening of the monument.

RVIO also prepared the pylons that bear the names of the homeland defenders, killed in the area during the Great Patriotic War.

This monument became the fifteenth within a project focused on the replacement of dilapidated monuments and the improvement of military graves, as well as the creation of the memorial complexes. Relatives of the fallen soldiers and commanders, who fought for the liberation of Spas-Demensk near Kaluga, were awarded the medals, which the military research scouts have found on these borderline positions.

The Russian Military-historical Society and the government of the Kaluga Oblast have jointly carried out a renovation of the “Gnezdilovskaya Height” memorial complex with the remains of about 3.5 thousand soldiers and officers of the Red Army, who gave their lives in the struggle against fascism.
