
History of Russia: Exhibition "In the sky over the Arctic", dedicated to pilots-heroes, in Moscow
The exhibition, dedicated to pilots-heroes, pioneers of high-latitude flights "in the sky over the Arctic", is held from August 11 to September 25, 2016 at the Museum of Heroes of the Soviet Union and Russia in Moscow.
2016 marks the 80th anniversary of the high-flying brave pilot polar explorer, Hero of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Vasilyevich Vodopiyanov. The flight was committed on Rudolf Island (Franz Josef Land archipelago) in preparation for landing on the ice of the world's first drifting station "North Pole-1". This victory was followed by a number of achievements of Soviet aviation in the airspace of the Arctic.
The basis of the exhibition "In the skies over the Arctic" is a collection of books and periodicals on the legendary Soviet pilot M. V. Vodopiyanov, M. M. Gromov, V. P. Chkalov, I. I. Cherevichny. The participants of polar expeditions, who became Heroes of the Soviet Union, were the first who mastered arctic air travel. The exhibition presents memorial items belonging of pilots V. I. Maslennikov, M. P. Stupishin, V. P. Koloshenko, N. I. Kochmarev. A special place belongs to the artistic works of Hero of the Soviet Union V. I. Maslennikov, which were created directly in the high-latitude expeditions.
The exhibition is organized together with private collections.
