History of Russia: The exhibition “Ladoga fortress. The path length in the millennium” in Veliky Novgorod

On August 5, 2016 in the lobby of the building of Official places of the Novgorod Kremlin is held an exhibition "Ladoga fortress. The path length in the millennium".

The exhibition is provided by the Museum-Reserve "Old Ladoga". Visitors will see the materials telling about the stages of construction and history of the study and restoration of the fortress. The iconic series of exhibitions make rare photos, views fortress in the visual arts, fortification plans from different periods, variations of graphic reconstructions. The exhibition runs until 30 September.

Ladoga fortifications have always been at the heart of the military-political events, playing a crucial role in the difficult moments of the history of the Russian state. Historical documents show that since the end of IX - beginning of X century the fortress is the administrative center of Ladoga, and the urban nucleus around which formed the ancient settlement was formed. The construction of the new fortress in 1114-1116 created the conditions for further rapid temple construction and development of the city in the XII century. Complete reconstruction of the fortress in the period gunshot was held in late XV - early XVI century.

Restoration of ancient buildings is inextricably linked with their careful study. Historians, archaeologists, architects collect the crumbs of the most valuable monuments of the certificate of life to make informed decisions about their safety.

The history of the restoration of the fortress is relatively short, it started a little over a hundred years ago, when in Russia emerged a particular interest in the ancient domestic historical and cultural monuments. In the middle of the XX century it began a new life of an old fortress. In the seventieth year of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War the Staraya Ladoga historical, architectural and archaeological museum has completed the restoration of the western facade of the fortress of the XVI century. There were commissioned restored fragments: the north-western fence and arrow tower.
