Exhibitions: The exposition “Vasily Polenov and France” in the Tula region

Until August 31, 2016 at the V. D. Polenov State Museum (the Tula region) is presented the xhibition "Vasily Polenov and France".

The exhibition for the first time presents the work of Vasily Polenov in this perspective. More than 60 works from the museum help to evaluate the role of French art in the development of the young artist.

Culture and history of France been loved by Polenov since his childhood: confirmation - an album of drawings of the 1860s: a large place is occupied by the image of French castles and scenes from the history of France. At the exhibition these early works are shown for the first time.

After graduating from the Academy of Arts, he received a gold medal for the painting "The Raising of Jairus's daughter" and the right to a six-year trip abroad, Polenov tries to understand the way in art. It is in a pensioner's trip Polenov saw himself as a landscape painter. After going through a fascination with many Western artists, Polenov acquired its own experience of plein air painting. His landscapes became events in the cultural life of Russia.

Polenov was sent on a business trip to France as a historical painter, and returned to Russia three years later as one of the most significant Russian landscape painters.
