1 August 2016

Denisova Cave, being natural and archaeological monument, is located in the district of Soloneshensky in the Altai Territory. At the moment, during the excavations of the cave were revealed more than 20 cultural layers from different ages. It collected more than 80 000 items, which are stored in various museums in Siberia. The excavation of Denisov cave for the first time allowed to establish a strict chronological sequence of development and change of ancient cultures from the Early Neolithic to the ethnographic present.

More recently, truly sensational finds, archaeologists have learned from the 11-th layer in the cave 50 thousand years ago. They found the stone bracelet. By age, the bracelet is the oldest known to date women's jewelry.

This finding of archaeologists turned notions of primitive man. Researchers believe that the decoration belongs to a noble lady and was a symbol of status. Most scientists struck by the fact that an archaic kind of people possessed a high level of culture.

According to archaeologists, the bracelet is complex to manufacture. It has a neat hole, and, apparently, the drilling technology was used, comparable with a modern machine.

Archaeologists admit that for nearly 30 years of excavations, they were able to study only part of the cave. The works in the cave are conducted here since the 1980s.
