World history: The exhibition "Russia and Mount Athos. To the 1000 anniversary of the presence of Russian monks in the Holy Mountain" was opened in Moscow

Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill and the Minister of Culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky opened the exhibition in Moscow in honor of the 1000th anniversary of Russian presence in the Holy Mount Athos (Greece). The main anniversary celebrations take place on 21-24 September 2016 at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, in which the gallery and the exposition are housed.

The exhibition "Russia and Mount Athos. To the 1000 anniversary of the presence of Russian monks in the Holy Mountain" covers the long history of relations between Russia and Mount Athos and represents the first time of such a significant set of original documentary evidence of ancient manuscripts, unique letters and documents, icons, graphics, photos and objects of decorative art from Russian collections archives and museums. For the first time it is publicly presented previously classified archival documents on relations with Athos in the era of the Soviet Union.
