
Museums and Society: The I Congress of the International Association of Museums of the World War II opened in Moscow
October 12, 2016 in the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War in Moscow is held the I Congress of the International Association of Museums of the World War II.
During the Congress will take place the International Scientific Conference "Anti-Japanese front of the World War II", at which presentations will be made by representatives of museums in the People's Republic of China, the Russian Federation and other countries - members of the International Association of Museums of the World War II.
Within the Congress will be held a round table on the theme "History of the World War II in museum research: current practice, the problem of inter-museum co-ordination and exchange of experience", will be open the exhibition "Anti-Japanese front of the World War II".
The area of the exposure of the exhibition is more than 800 square meters. During the opening ceremony the guests will be demonstrated a sound installation "Far Eastern finale".
The main sections of the exhibition show the participation of the USSR and China in the fight against Japanese militarism. The other sections present materials about other countries - participants of the Anti-Japanese coalition: the US, UK, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Canada, Mexico, Mongolia, Nepal, the Kingdom of Thailand, Republic of Korea. The exhibition will show documentary evidence of the policy of the Japanese militarism, highlighting the most terrible and brutal events of the war.
The project is intended to reflect the scale of military operations and the importance of anti-Japanese front during the World War II, to tell about preconditions of its formation, the key battles, to show resistance, courage and heroism of the peoples of the Anti-Japanese coalition. The exhibition presents the museum exhibits (armament items, uniforms, awards, medals, etc.), archival documents, photographs, propaganda posters, documentary newsreel footage, which will be broadcast on the monitors placed in the four sections of the main countries that formed the anti-Japanese front - the USSR, China, the USA, the UK. Electronic content of the exhibition - maps, photocopies of texts and documents - will be placed on the touchscreen.
The objective of this exhibition project - to demonstrate the role of the International Association of Museums of the World War II as the coordinator of the activities of inter-museum for the study of the World War II and the conservation of the historical memory of its events and the victims, as well as the provision of anti-tampering history of the World War II.
The exhibition will run until February 2017.
