World history: Exhibition “Grimaldi and the Romanovs. Three centuries of history. XVII-XX” is opening in Moscow as part of Monaco Days in Russia

The exhibition "Grimaldi and the Romanovs" is opened on October 7, 2016 at the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow).

The exhibition "Grimaldi and the Romanovs" - one of the main events of Monaco Days in Russia. It tells about the history of relations between Russia and Monaco and communications of the Russian imperial house and the princely house of Grimaldi.

Relations between the two dynasties are presented in the official decrees and manifestos, letters and photographs, diaries and commemorative albums, paintings and personal objects. For viewers who are likely to interest the monuments of history and admire the evidence era, are collected exhibits from Russian archives and museums and collections of the Prince's Palace of Monaco.

The exposition, which was built in chronological order, will make it possible to go from the Middle Ages to the present day, by comparing the two parallel biography of the oldest dynasties in Europe. Belonging to the higher strata of the Genoese medieval society, representatives of Grimaldi are actively involved in large-scale colonization of the Black Sea during the Genoese in XIII-XV centuries. Thus, the genus Grimaldi was directly involved in the exploration and development of future Russian territories.

At the exhibition viewers will see a valuable exhibit - the imperial egg clock made by Faberge in 1895 for a gift to Empress Maria Feodorovna. The egg is in Prince’s collection in Monaco since 1974, when it was donated by Prince Rainier III, his wife, Princess Grace.

In 1917, relations between Monaco and Russia were suspended and restored only in 2006.

Through this exhibition, the exhibits from Monaco are for the first time presented in Moscow, some of them have never left the Principality of Monaco. Together with the unique stored in the Russian subjects, they allow to dive into the long history of relations between Russia and Monaco, and verify the existence of a mutual interest in culture and science between the two countries.
