The peoples of Russia: Exhibition "Traditional festive clothes and costumes of the Russian North" in St. Petersburg

The exhibition "The traditional festive clothes and costume of the Russian North" runs until December 18, 2016 in the Russian Ethnographic Museum (St. Petersburg).

The exhibition presents exhibits from the collections of the Arkhangelsk Fine Arts Museum and the funds of the State Academic Northern Russian Folk Choir.

The aims and objectives of the exhibition:

- A comprehensive exhibition of folk costumes of individual Russian North as a result of the study of museum collections and a wide display of stage costume collection of one of the best creative teams of the Arkhangelsk region - the North of the State Academic Russian Folk Choir, created on the basis of ethnic traditions.

- Attracting of creative and folk groups, the general public, youth and the younger generation in the traditions of folk culture.

- Advertising and promotion of highly artistic works made with the use of the northern traditions.

- Promotion the development of tourism in the regions of Arkhangelsk North.

The exposition includes a festive female costume of Russian North regions, taking into account the existing distinctive of local traditions of Pomerania, Mezen, Pinega and Kargopol. The exhibition includes costumes, made of homespun linen cloths, pestryad, heels and dresses from purchased fabric of Russian and foreign production factory, hats, clothing items and ornaments.

A separate block shows costume - the best designs created using the ethnic traditions and stage productions of the State Academic Northern Russian Folk Choir.
