
Science and Society: The Kremlin awarded prizes of the Russian Geographical Society
November 24, 2016 in the Kremlin took place the awarding ceremony of the Russian Geographical Society.
The award of the Russian Geographical Society is the national award in the field of geography, ecology, conservation and promotion of natural, historical and cultural heritage of Russia. It is held once every two years and has an international status. First was given in 2014.
The ceremony was attended by President of Russia Vladimir Putin, who chairs the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society. The event honored those who have made a special contribution to the development of ecology, preservation of cultural heritage.
The President awarded the nomination "Popularization of Russian natural and historical and cultural heritage". Awards was honored the documentary "Vostok Station. On the threshold of life" (director and cameraman Olga Stefanova, screenwriter Sergei Khovenko). According to the President, these works encourage people to learn more about the world and their homeland.
Applications for the award were made, moreover, in the categories "Expedition", "Research", "Education and awareness", "Public Recognition".
Also in the course of the winners of the photo contest were announced at the RGS ceremony of "The Most Beautiful Country" 2016, which this year was held for the second time. For 4.5 months 23 thousand photographers from Russia and other countries sent to the competition about 110 thousand shots.
