History of Russia: Exhibition, devoted to the educational institutions of the Russian province of the late XIX - early XX century, in Suzdal

In the Archbishop's Chambers of Suzdal Kremlin was opened an exhibition "Az Buki yes, and then - science" dedicated to the educational institutions of the Russian province of the end XIX - the first quarter of XX century.

By that time in the Russian Empire was developed a multi-level system of public education, in which there were several dozen types of educational institutions belonging to different departments.

In smaller towns, such as Suzdal there were functioning schools mainly of primary and secondary levels, related to the Ministry of Education and the Office of the Holy Synod. Basic literacy skills in Suzdal and county can be obtained in the parish (city) schools, in parish and district primary schools. The county in 1915 there were more than 25 parish and 94 Zemsky schools. 

Primary education of advanced type in Suzdal was given by 3-grade city school and religious school. The curriculum in these schools lasted 6 years and was given, in modern parlance, lower secondary and vocational education. Theological College was located in Bishops Chambers of the Suzdal Kremlin and contained the means of the local clergy.

At the beginning of the XX century Suzdal public was concerned by the question of absence in the city average of classical education. As a result of intense activity of citizens in Suzdal open women's and men's gymnasium. "Century" of Suzdal gymnasiums was short-lived. In 1918 they were converted into Soviet schools.

Presented at the exhibition a series of documentary-ware allows to plunge into the atmosphere of school life of past ages; learn, what, how and where children were taught 100 years ago in Suzdal district. Of particular interest are the objects incentives for good performance - it is commendable sheets of different schools, medals of "Successful" gymnasium. To the category of rare items can be included "ballnik" of female gymnasia and the magazine "Our thoughts", published by the student council gymnasium in 1917. Visitors can sit at the "old" parties, to solve tasks from the textbook in 1906 and to learn the rules of the Russian language on textbook 1876.
