History and culture: Exhibition project, dedicated to the image of the Archangel Michael in the visual arts, in Moscow

The exhibition project "Heavenly governor forces. The image of the Archangel Michael in icon painting and graphics" is presented at the Museum-Reserve "Kolomenskoye" (Moscow) from November 9, 2016 to March 12, 2017.

November 21 the new style is the day of the Archangel Michael. In Orthodoxy, it is called the Archangel, i. e. the warlord of holy armies of Angels and Archangels.

Among all the hosts of Heaven Bodiless the most revered is Archangel Michael. His image is often found in Christian art.

The exhibition shows the main types of iconographic images of the Archangel Michael in the iconography and graphics, as in the Russian style, as well as in Western Europe, with the main subjects related to the image of the Archangel Michael.

The exhibition features icons and books from the fund of the Museum-Reserve, which are open on the pages, telling about Archangel Michael.
