Information technology and museums: The digitization of exhibits of the State Hermitage is being continued

The State Hermitage Museum completed the next stage of the digitization of collections. ELAR Corporation to fill a museum information system "KAMIS" made electronic copies of objects of decorative and applied arts, archeology, sculpture, coins and charts.

The albums of XVII-XIX centuries, containing the engraved illustrations, prints framed are digitized.

The transformation of the project into digital form of one of the largest museums of the world the ELAR Corporation leads for five years. The chief curator of the State Hermitage Svetlana Adaksina: "Technical survey and digitization of exhibits in the museum were started in 2012. At the same time in the museum were transferred into electronic form (scanned and indexed) all inventory books and books of receipts. This is the traditional way for any museum that leads efforts to improve their critical processes - keeping and storage. The images of museum objects, as well as scans of accounting documents loaded in KAMIS database. Currently are converted into digital form over 1.5 million museum objects. Total the Hermitage holds more than 3 million exhibits, i. e. one half is digitized".
