History and culture: Exhibition "The Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna - Greek Queen. To the 165th birth anniversary" in Pavlovsk

In the Library of Rossi in the Pavlovsk Palace on November 2, 2016 was opened the exhibition "The Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna – the Greek Queen. To the 165th birth anniversary". The exhibition is held under the auspices of the Year of Greece in Russia.

Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna, wife of King of Greece George I, one of the most outstanding representatives of the Romanov dynasty, left his mark both in Russia and in Greece for its charity works, improving the social conditions of the people, building hospitals and Orthodox churches. As the daughter of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich, General-Admiral, when a child she loved and patronized the Russian navy sailors. In Athens, a hospital was built on her facilities for the Russian sailors, and in Piraeus the Russian cemetery. She was the chief of the 12th Naval Depot. In St. Petersburg, she has initiated the construction of the temple of Savior on Waters in memory of sailors who died in the Battle of Tsushima. 

The exhibition, dedicated to the memory of the Grand Duchess and Greek queen Olga Konstantinovna, whose name is closely linked with the history of Pavlovsk, where she was born and came each year to visit parents and beloved brother Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich, are presented objects from the Museum-Reserve collection materials and documents from archives and libraries, not previously exhibited. For the first time viewers will see a picture of Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna, established in Pavlovsk, a pastel portrait of her father, Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich, numerous objects from the collection of I. E. Filimonov, acquired by the museum in 2016, and a copy of the portrait of Olga Konstantinovna work of Danish artist L. Tuxen from the collection of the National History museum at Frederiksborg castle.

Paintings and drawings, books, porcelain, rare historical photographs and unique documents - any exhibit will allow to deeper learn about the life and interests of a remarkable woman, Olga Konstantinovna, state and public figure, a devoted daughter, a loving wife, sister and mother, who in any case invested talent and pure soul, and the breadth of Russian nature.

The exposition is complemented with rare documentary footage of the film Vyacheslav Motsardo "Dedicated to the bright memory of the Queen of the Hellenes, née Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna Romanova".

The exhibition will run until December 20, 2016.
