World History and Culture: Exhibition "Greek story" at the Museum-Estate "Arkhangelskoye"
At the end of the Year of Greece the Russian Museum-Estate "Arkhangelsk" (Moscow) on 29 December 2016 at the Palace opens a new exhibition "The Greek story".
More than two thousand years "Greek miracle" fascinates the mankind. Arkhangelskoye is riddled with ancient stories and a new exhibition has become a logical continuation of the themes laid down by the owners.
Ancient Greek culture has had a huge impact on the course of world history, and laid the foundation for Culture and Education of the European peoples. Of particular interest it aroused in the Age of Enlightenment, a brilliant representative of which was Prince Nikolai Borisovich Yusupov (1751-1831). Book collection and art collections show serious attitude of Duke of literature, history, philosophy, art and scientific thought of antiquity.
Noteworthy are casts of carved stones of plaster and red sulfur of XVIII - XIX centuries - antique cameos and intaglios, which served as a visual aid for the study of antiquity. Organizers of the exhibition only attempt to touch the many-sided themes - "Mythology" and "Travel Prince" and look at them through the eyes of the collector Yusupov. Through taste, knowledge and wealth of the estate of the organizers - Prince Golitsyn, and then Prince Nikolai Yusupov and his descendants, as well as careful treatment of staff of the Museum of the historical heritage, the images of the cradle of European civilization appeared in Russia and reached our time.
