History and culture: Exhibition "Church of the Intercession on the Nerl – the look through the Ages" in Suzdal

28 December 2016

The exhibition "Church of the Intercession on the Nerl – the look through the Ages" is opened on December 28, 2016 in the gallery of Bishops of Chambers of the Suzdal Kremlin.

The Church of the Intercession on the artificial hill was built in 1165. The temple is consecrated in honor of the feast of the Protection of the Mother of God, set in Russia in the middle of the XII century on the initiative of Bogolyubsky.

The location of the temple is unique: the Church of the Intercession is built in a valley, on a small hill, located on meadow filler. Earlier, at the church was a place of confluence of the Klyazma Nerl (now riverbeds changed their position). The church was almost on the river "arrow", making out the most important crossroads of trade routes of water.

In 1992, together with other architectural masterpieces of Vladimir land, the Church of the Intercession on the Nerl was included in the UNESCO list of monuments of world-wide cultural-historical significance.

The exhibition features 19 photo sketches, reflecting the multifaceted image of an architectural masterpiece. The works, created by professional photographers and amateur artists, were the result of the national competition dedicated to the 850th anniversary of the Church of the Intercession on the Nerl and organized by the State Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve, together with the Vladimir branch of the Union of Photographers of Russia.
