Society and Book Culture: Ivanovo reading room of the Russian State Library is opening with the project "The book through the eyes of the designer"
The Russian State Library (RSL) on December 23, 2016 opens a new exhibition space - Ivanovo reading room - the project "The book through the eyes of the designer", which exposition, in particular, includes 50 rare books from the library collection.
Ivanovsky reading room - a separate building, which stands next to the Pashkov House - was built in 1915 by Nicholas Shevyakov. The name he received on the name of the artist Ivanov, the author of "The Appearance of Christ to the people": the picture, now exhibited at the State Tretyakov Gallery, was exhibited here.
Deputy Director of the Russian State Library for Foreign Relations Natalia Samoilenko said that in the library are unpublished diaries of Ivanov: albums with sketches and one biblical sketch on the back of which are two portraits of Nikolai Gogol.
According to Samoilenko, the first exhibition in the new room ("The book through the eyes of the designer") was the result of a collaboration of leading designers from the guardians of the RSL in the library's collections. For it were selected 50 rare books of the library, starting from the XV century to the XX.
The second part of the exhibition is devoted to the work of designers - participants of the project, including Nikolai Kalinin, Boris Trofimov, Alexander Konoplyov and others.
