Society and Book Culture: Exhibition project "Tales of Hans Christian Andersen" presents illustrations to writer’s fairy tales in Moscow

On December 20, 2016 the Anatoly Zverev Museum (AZ Museum) presents a new exhibition project "Tales of Hans Christian Andersen". The basis of the exhibition is illustration by Anatoly Zverev in four tales of Hans Christian Andersen - "The Nightingale", "The Wild Swans", "The Little Mermaid" and "Emperor's New Clothes".

This cycle of illustrations, the artist created in 1961 at the request of the famous choreographer and ballet master Alexander Rumnev. Figures for years were kept in the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art. In 2013, the publishing project of the AZ Museum released book "Zverev paints Andersen's fairy tales", which includes the well-known fairy tales with new ones, "Zverev" illustrations. The publication of hitherto unknown drawings by Anatoly Zverev has become a significant event in the history of Russian book graphics. The album received a diploma for the best book design at the International Fair NONFICTION in 2013.

The exposition "Tales of Hans Christian Andersen" was developed on three floors of the museum. Traditionally, this project addresses the AZ Museum of family and children's audience. In the days of the New Year holidays and during the exhibition will be held a special children's holiday program and excursions. The project will take place on copyright lectures of leading experts on creativity of Andersen stories and book illustrations, as well as music and poetry readings.
