International events: Exhibition of works of Georgian artists of the first third of the XX century in Moscow

The exhibition "Georgian avant-garde: 1900-1930s. Pirosmani, Gudiashvili, Kakabadze and other artists. From museums and private collections" is opened on December 8, 2016 at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow).

Museum for the first time in Russia presents such a large-scale exhibition of Georgian artists of the first third of the XX century. Spectators will see works by Nico Pirosmanashvili (Pirosmani) (1863-1918), Vladimir (Lado) Gudiashvili (1896-1980), David Kakabadze (1889-1952), Cyril Zdanevich (1892-1969), Alexander Bazhbeuk-Melikov (Melikyan) (1891 -1966), Helena Akhvlediani (1901-1975), Irakli Gamrekeli (1894-1943), Petre Otsheli (1907-1937) and Ziggy (Sigismund) Waliszewski (1897-1936). Total it is collected more than 200 works of painting, easel and theatrical decorative graphics from major museums and private collections of Russia and Georgia.

This project is intended to emphasize the importance of dialogue between the two countries, which history and culture are inextricably linked for centuries with reliable bonds. Georgia, Tiflis, has been a meeting place for different civilizations, languages and traditions.

The main idea of the exhibition is to show the rich artistic heritage of avant-garde art of the Georgian era.
