President of Russia: Meeting with Constitutional Court judges to the 25th anniversary of the Constitutional Court

7 December 2016

At the Kremlin, the President met with judges of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation in advance of Constitution Day, marked on December 12.

Vladimir Putin congratulated judges with the 25th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation.

He said: “I would like to emphasise the importance of the Constitutional Court’s decisions on human rights. The Constitution guarantees the equality of all citizens before the law. However, there is also a broad constitutional framework that formulates clear requirements for the protection of the rights of citizens and their responsibility for their words and actions. These norms are a foundation for consolidating society and understanding that justice is about the balance between private and public interests.

I would like to stress that patriotism is inspired not just by love for one’s country, but also by the state’s respect for individuals and their dignity, not to mention the care citizens show for their country, the mutual responsibility of the state and people for each other. It is these values that the Constitutional Court upholds with clarity and sound reasoning. I would like to thank you for this”.
