Internet and Society: The Company "Yandex" to the 150th anniversary of the Dahl Dictionary published a study on the use of his words when search queries

To the 150th anniversary of the Dahl Dictionary the company "Yandex" has published a study on the use of words from the dictionary with the search queries.

As the result it turned out that Dahl gives the interpretation of about 200 thousands of words, but of which almost one-fifth (18%) for the year never met in search queries on Yandex (users do not even ask about their meaning). Approximately 38% of the words mentioned in the request, but is absent in the case of the Russian language (in the National Corpus of modern Russian language has more than 600 million words). At the intersection of search and housing were 44% of the words.

Using various methods, the company was able to conclude that about one third of the words from the dictionary Dahl (32%) are still prevalent. Even a little less than 30% is used, but very little, a third of them - only in the search value. Almost 40% of the words, or half the entire volume of the dictionary Dahl, are completely out of use.

In "Yandex" they noted that the verbs of the Dahl Dictionary obsolete faster than nouns.
