History of Russia: The XXXI Scientific Conference "Novgorod and the Novgorod land. History and archeology" is opened

25-27 January 2017 in the Novgorod Museum Reserve is held the XXXI Scientific Conference "Novgorod and the Novgorod land. History and archeology".

This year's conference is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the archaeological study of Novgorod. It brings together leading researchers from academic institutions in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novgorod, Petrozavodsk, Yekaterinburg, Tver, Pskov, Old Ladoga. Plenary meeting on 25 January was opened with the report of the General Director of the Novgorod Museum Reserve of the priority projects of the museum and co-operation with the Novgorod archeological expedition. At the plenary session were read even three reports: on the general results of the archaeological study of Novgorod, about musical archeology of Novgorod the Great and the participation of students of the Ural University in archaeological excavations. 

Thirteen reports of the first day of the conference presented the results of field studies 2016: works in Lyudin and Slavonic ends of medieval Novgorod; at the Sofia and Trade sides of the city; on the territory of St. George and Sitetsky monasteries; the study of the Church of the Annunciation in the Settlement; Church of Elijah the Prophet in the glorious and St. Nicholas in Lipno and others. A separate report was devoted to birch bark, found in the archaeological season in 2016 in Novgorod and Staraya Russa.

Issues of history and archeology of Novgorod and the Novgorod land will be discussed in the second and third days of the conference. It will be read thirty-eight research works and presented fourteen poster presentations.
