History of Russia: The exhibition of posters "Towards a New Life!", dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution, in St. Petersburg

January 23, 2017 in the Department of Prints of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg) is opening an exhibition of posters "Towards a New Life", dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution.

For the first time, the exhibition presents a unique collection of posters from the Department of Prints, published in the first years of Soviet power and embodied all the dynamics of the revolutionary era.

Graphic material demonstrates the problems that had to be decided by the new government. Causes of social change, the aims and objectives of building a new society, the development of cooperation between town and country, literacy and education of youth - these and other topics received visual expression in propaganda posters of the first years of revolutionary change. Solving the educational and organizational problems, this kind of mass graphic art became one of the most popular in Soviet Russia.

The exposition presents posters, created by famous artists - Dmitri Mohr, Alexander Samokhvalov, Alexander Apsit, Alexei Radakov and unknown artists.

The exhibition will be open till March 2.
