History of Russia: The anniversary project, dedicated to the Russian ruble, in Staraya Russa

In the exhibition room of the Regional Museum, in the Staraya Russa branch of the Novgorod Museum Reserve is opened an exhibition "700 years of the Russian ruble".

It features 11illustratively-information stands and selected exhibits from the numismatic collection of the Novgorod Museum. The exhibition is held with the support of Sberbank of Russia in the framework of the project "The Russian ruble. 700 years of history".

Visitors will learn about the monetary circulation until ruble’s appearance (Arab, Byzantine and Western European coins in the early centuries of Rus’; short-term coinage at the turn of X-XI centuries, cash bars of "coinless period"); to trace monetary reforms associated with the formation of the Moscow government, the activities of Alexei Mikhailovich, Peter I, Catherine II. Separately, it is provided information on commemorative and donative rubles of the Russian Empire, the ruble since 1917, and a brief history of counterfeiting.

The exhibition runs till February 15.
