9 January 2017

The work on the creation of the exposition, dedicated to the history of the fortifications of Veliky Novgorod, Novgorod fortress and its garrison is being continued.

Vologda craftsmen under the direction of artist Sergei Ievlev executed copies of Russian ensign (small banners) of the end of the XVII century. According to the author of the concept, the leading researcher of the Novgorod Museum Reserve Ilya Khokhlov, they are made on the basis of authentic objects currently stored in the Museum of the Army (Stockholm, Sweden). In 1700, they were among the trophies captured by Swedish army at Narva. It is known that some of them depict the Archangel Michael - Archangel, patron of the Orthodox army.

The exposition will be located in the monument of Novgorod defensive architecture - White (Alexeev) tower. At this time, the monument is undergoing renovation and restoration work, which is scheduled for completion in 2017.
