History of Russia: The exhibition "The City of Winners" presents the architecture of postwar Petrozavodsk

8 February 2017

The exhibition "The City of Winners. Architecture of postwar Petrozavodsk (1945-1955)" is running until 26 March 2017 in the Republic of Karelia National Museum (Petrozavodsk).

The post-war decade was the time that determined the appearance of the historic center of Petrozavodsk – these are buildings, erected in 1945-1955, which are real decoration of the capital of Karelia until now.

The exhibition includes photographs, documenting the appearance of the city in the first decade after the war: houses, survived the occupation and rebuilt anew. These are pictures from the collection of the National Museum of the Republic of Karelia, taken by photographers of Karelia and famous photojournalists. Of particular interest there are two canvases depicting the period of active construction in Petrozavodsk. The first work was created in 1953 by Michael Georgievich Klemansky (1923-2011), the second was written by Sergei Ivanovich Gryazev (1920-2009) in 1957.
