Museums of Russia: Exhibition of new acquisitions "We store, increasing" to the 85th anniversary of the Museum of the History of Religion was opened in St. Petersburg

The State Museum of the History of Religion (St. Petersburg) hosts an exhibition of new acquisitions "We store, increasing" to the 85th anniversary of the museum.

Since its establishment the museum preserves the status of Russia's leading center for the study of religion in all the diversity of historical forms - from ancient times to the present day. Every year the museum organizes more than 50 temporary exhibitions in Russia and abroad, new permanent exhibitions and open storage funds, publishes exhibition catalogs and collections. For over eighty years the museum staff cherishes and restores museum exhibits - samples of the world's spiritual and material heritage.

In 1932, the museum's collection includes all 847 items. Today it is about 200 million units, and this affects with diversity - monuments of history and culture of different countries, eras and peoples, the oldest of which date back to VI millennium BC.

His jubilee year the museum is opened with an exhibition dedicated to one of the most important areas of museum work - the completion and acquisition of funds. It presents more than 100 exhibits - new acquisitions have enriched the museum collection in the last five years (2012-2016), reflecting the main directions of work of museum curators.

Exhibited objects - a small fraction of the total number of new acquisitions. Over the past five years, the funds were complemented with 2095 objects. Of these, 611 were transferred to the museum as a gift, 1484 - purchased.

The exhibition reflects all the diversity of sources of replenishment of the collections - purchase; gifts of individuals, including contemporary painters, graphic artists, sculptors, and their successors, as well as gifts of collectors and gatherers - partners of the museum for exhibition projects; gifts of religious organizations, with which the museum supports the partnerships; transfer from the Office of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation in the Northwestern Federal District detained at customs objects that have cultural and historical and artistic importance.
