History of Russia: Exhibition "Russia. 1917" within the framework of the project "History of Russia in Photographs" in Veliky Novgorod

February 3, 2017 in the building of government offices of the Novgorod Museum-Reserve is opening the exhibition "Russia. 1917".

This exhibition is part of a unique multimedia project of the Moscow House of Photography "History of Russia in the photographs" Its goal - to trace the real course of history in the past of the XX century, to recreate the authentic image of the events and personalities of the past time. More than 40 archives are co-operating with the project, as well as museums and private collections, as well as the heirs of the classics of Russian photography.

The exhibition project covers a variety of aspects of life in Russia in 1917: the February and October revolutions, events of the World War I; it is presented as famous historical characters, and the daily life of different classes of St. Petersburg, Moscow and Russian provincial cities. Visitors will witness demonstrations in Petrograd, Moscow and Irkutsk, the abdication of Nicholas II from the throne, the unsuccessful revolt of General Kornilov, the appointment of Admiral Alexander Kolchak supreme ruler, the formation of the Provisional Government and the flight of Vladimir Ulyanov (Lenin) from Petrograd to Finland.

The exhibition presents eighty photographs. These are works of the best photographers of the early XX century, among them: Karl and Victor Bulla, James Steinberg, Peter Otsup, chronicler of the Russian revolution Dmitry Leshchenko and, at the same time, photos of unknown authors, whose names have not yet appeared in the history of the Russian photographic art, but without which it is impossible to imagine. The frames of these great photographers let us remember what happened exactly one hundred years ago in Russia in 1917.
