Libraries of Russia: The main building of the Sverdlovsk Regional Universal Scientific Library was opened after renovation

February 1, 2017 after a long renovation it has been opened the main building of the V. G. Belinsky Sverdlovsk Regional Scientific Library (Yekaterinburg), historical and cultural monuments of local importance.

After the large-scale restoration works in the main body of the V. G. Belinsky Library readers will have access to extensive, previously partially conserved book fund (more than 2 million units) and the ability to use new modern technologies. Library card holders will be able to appreciate the comfortable conditions for work and reading, a different level of service, fast search and retrieval of the required books.

The restoration was carried out in view of the careful preservation of the historic appearance of the library. In the premises are restored ceiling moldings, parquet and mosaic floors, applied decorative plaster, replaced decorative panels on the walls. It is also restored famous mezzanine in Southern and Northern reading rooms.

For readers are installed navigation and electronic information panels, the latest computer equipment, sound reproducing apparatus. For visually impaired readers are purchased keyboard and Braille printer. According to the program "Available environment" are created the conditions for the use of library services by people with disabilities. 

As part of the modernization process it is created a modern information infrastructure in the form of a local computer network with a powerful server. It is installed a new PBX to IP-telephony. The reading rooms are fitted with points for Wi-Fi access. The rooms are equipped with new furniture. The new training center includes a video conferencing room and a modern computer classroom.

It is planned further technological development of the library as an information and cultural center, equipped with the latest systems for digitizing and storing large amounts of information, reading books, e-services, educational activities, conferences and seminars, cultural events (exhibitions, presentations, meetings, festivals, etc).
