Memory of Russia: The first meeting of the Organizing Committee for the preparation and holding of jubilee events for the 800th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Nevsky

In the Hall of Church Councils of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior (Moscow), the first extended meeting of the Organizing Committee for the preparation and holding of jubilee events related to the 800th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Nevsky was held, which will be celebrated in 2021.

The meeting was chaired by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Medinsky.

"It's been four years until the anniversary and the task of the Organizing Committee is to ensure the fulfillment of the plan of anniversary events, which was approved. The plan is interdepartmental in nature, a number of executive bodies, the Church, public organizations, funds are involved in its implementation", - the head of the Ministry of Culture of Russia said at the meeting.

He also proposed the creation of a permanent working group, headed by Russia's Deputy Minister of Culture, Alla Manilova, to coordinate preparations for the jubilee.

Key events will take place on the territory of Moscow, St. Petersburg, the Moscow, the Pskov, the Novgorod, the Vladimir and the Yaroslavl regions, and the implementation of the plan is designed for six years.

The plan to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Nevsky involves carrying out repair and restoration work on cultural heritage sites related to the memory of Alexander Nevsky, festivals, historical reconstructions, competitions, exhibitions, and publishing. In addition, special attention will be paid to the preparation of international scientific conferences.

The decree on the celebration in 2021 of the 800th anniversary of the birth of the holy Prince Alexander Nevsky, which determines the procedure for the preparation and holding of this landmark event, was signed in 2014 by President of Russia Vladimir Putin. In 2015, the order of the Government of Russia determined the composition of the Organizing Committee.
