Society and book culture: The exhibition of book graphics in St. Petersburg

8 March 2017

The exhibition of book graphics by Vera Pavlova was opened in the Museum of the Press (the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg).

Vera Pavlova is a famous St. Petersburg graphic artist, the only gold medal winner in St. Petersburg of the International Biennale of Illustration in Bratislava, the winner of prestigious Russian and international book illustration contests "The Art of the Book" and "The Image of the Book".

The exhibition presents original illustrations of Vera Pavlova to the publication "Children's Album" (St. Petersburg: Vita Nova, 2017) - a musical edition of P. I. Tchaikovsky with texts by Victor Lunin.

"Children's Album" - twenty-four light pieces for piano - one of the most popular works of P. I. Tchaikovsky. A century after the appearance of the Children's Album, the concept of the great composer ("making a series of small fragments of unconditional ease and with appealing titles for children") was developed in the work of the famous poet and translator Viktor Lunin. His poems organically complement the musical miniatures of Tchaikovsky, combine elements of elegant stylization with the ease and simplicity of the poetic language.

Illustrations of the Vera Pavlova visually recreate the plots of plays, convey the atmosphere of the noble manor life of the XIX century.
