Russian culture abroad: The Pompidou Center opened an updated exhibition of contemporary Russian art

More than 100 works of Russian modern art filled up the Centre Pompidou collection (Paris) and included in the exhibition "Collection! Contemporary art in the USSR and Russia 1950-2000: a unique gift to the museum". Updated exhibition was opened on February 27, 2017 with the participation of collectors, patrons and artists, thanks to which the Centre Pompidou won the most representative at the moment public collections of Russian art outside Russia.

In the future, the museum plans to buy paintings of masters of 1920-1930, in particular, Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin and Alexander Deineka, as well as works by Leningrad nonconformists and contemporary young artists.

The first large-scale part of the collection of Russian contemporary art was presented at the exhibition, which opened at the Pompidou Center in September. It included 250 works: part of the work was delivered by collectors, artists and their families, and almost half helped to purchase Vladimir Potanin Charitable Fund. 

After the exhibition of April 2 will complete its work, the works of Russian modern art will not go to the store, as told the director of the Centre Pompidou Bernard Blistene, they will be presented in the permanent exhibition of the Pompidou Centre on a rotational basis and will complement the halls with conceptual art. 

Thus the project will continue its development from a scientific point of view. As part of the research program "Russia XX Century" at the Centre Pompidou they will study the donated collection for three years. It is planned to translate into Russian and publish texts and articles artists, art historians and theoreticians of contemporary art, conduct screenings, meetings and lectures directly involved in the process.
