The history of Saint-Petersburg: The exhibition of new acquisitions "Witnessing and remembering" in the Museum of the Defence and the Siege of Leningrad

1 March 2017

The Museum of the Defence and the Siege of Leningrad from March 1, 2017 presents an exhibition of new acquisitions "Witnessing and remembering". At the heart of the exhibition there is a collection of paintings dedicated to the siege of Leningrad, provided to the museum by the Charitable Foundation of Elena and Gennady Timchenko.

Some of the works, presented in this exhibition, are direct evidence of the blockade: they were created in the besieged city. Others were established later, but reflect their own memories of artists. There are those who follow the documentary evidence and eyewitnesses, embodying what we conventionally call collective memory.

Excerpts from the documents, diaries, memoirs accompany the exhibited works, including their images in the dynamics of historical events.
