Memorable dates of Russia: The exhibition “Kazan – my future is there…”, dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Alexander Rodchenko, in Tatarstan

The National Art Gallery "Hazine" hosts an exhibition "Kazan – my future is there…" dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the famous artist, photographer, designer Alexander Mikhailovich Rodchenko.

Almost 15 years of Rodchenko life are associated with Kazan. Here he decided to become an artist. Kazan period contained all the important events that have contributed to its creative development: study at the Kazan Art School in the studio of N. I. Feshin and fateful meeting in the school walls with Varvara Stepanova, a future companion and wife, one of the famous "Amazons" of the Russian avant-garde. After the departure to Moscow in 1916, Alexander Rodchenko maintained with Kazan creative kinship. 

Anniversary exhibition presents materials related to the Kazan early period of Rodchenko works and his wife V. Stepanova. The majority of items is on display for the first time. These are documentary photographs of 1910-1920s., archival documents, prints, autographs, works of Rodchenko and other authors of the time, revealing the features of his creative development and interaction. For the first time viewers will see the works of Rodchenko and Stepanova in the funds of the Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan and received by the museum as a gift in 2016 by the grandson of the famous couple – A. N. Lavrentiev. Gift includes paintings, drawings and original prints of photographs by A. Rodchenko.
