History of Russia: Scientific conference "Treaty of Stolbovo and the return of the Novgorod land in the Russian State" in Veliky Novgorod

February 28, 2017 the All-Russian Scientific Conference "Treaty of Stolbovo and the return of the Novgorod land in the Russian State" will be held in the conference hall of the Museum of Fine Arts (Veliky Novgorod). Its organizers are the Novgorod State United Museum-Reserve and the Office of the Russian Historical Society in Veliky Novgorod.

The conference is dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the signing of Stolbovo agreement that ended the Swedish military presence in Russia and became the final output stage of the Russian Time of Troubles. With the signing of the Treaty of Stolbovo the Novgorod land was returned to the Russian state, it has ended its occupation by Swedish troops.

The conference, which runs from 28 February to 1 March, will be focused on issues related to the events of the history of Novgorod the beginning of the XVII century, the roles of Novgorod residents in the preparation and conclusion of the contract, historical significance and influence of the Treaty of Stolbovo on the further development of Novgorod. Participation in the dialogue will take part historians, art historians, literary critics.

It is supposed to hear 25 reports, submitted by scientists from Sweden, St. Petersburg, Novgorod, Pskov, Lipetsk, Tikhvin, Saratov, Vyborg.

In the conference hall of the Museum of Fine Arts as part of the program of the conference will be opened the exhibition "The Image "Our Lady of Tikhvin" in the monuments of the Novgorod Museum Reserve" and thematic exhibition of books from the collection of the museum's library.
